BEIR V
(1990) states (p 352) in "Other Somatic and Fetal Effects, Cancer in
Childhood following Exposure in Utero" that "In a 1950-1984 follow-up based on
DS86 dosimetry two cases of childhood cancer have been observed among 1,630 in
utero-exposed survivors during the first 14 years of life, both of which occurred in
persons who had been heavily exposed (1.39 and 0.56 Gy)." Professor Emeritus Dr. Sohei Kondo reports (1993) that "Birth defects: children with small head size, mental retardation, and reduction in IQ scores and school performance were born to pregnant mothers exposed to high doses. There were threshold doses of ~50 and 10 cGy, respectively, for severe mental retardation and reduction of IQ scores and school performances." |
