"The Health Effects of
Low Level Radiation:
Science, Data, and Corrective Action"
A Summary Document of the results and conclusions of the
technical papers presented in the 1994-1999 ANS LLRHE sessions. |
ANS National
Meetings / Sessions:
1994 - 1999
At the American Nuclear Society's 1994 Winter Meeting in
Washington, DC, there were two special sessions on "Low Level Radiation Health
Effects," organized by Jim Muckerheide. These sessions
addressed actual dose-response data (not included in BEIR V), and applicable research programs.
Two additional sessions, on these topics plus
"Policies and Cost/Benefits," were held at the June 1995 40th Annual ANS Meeting
in Philadelphia, PA. The President-elect and members representing the Health Physics
Society (HPS), and the President and a member of the National Council on Radiation
Protection and Measurements (NCRP), contributed to these sessions.
At the October 29-November 2, 1995 ANS Winter Meeting in
San Francisco, CA, four additional sessions, on these topics plus "Biology
Research and Beneficial Effects" were held. In addition, there was a Panel Session, as an "Open Working Meeting" on
"Needs for Research, Organization and Communication, and Corrective Actions".
At this meeting there was also the ANS "Wilhelm
Roentgen Radiology Centennial Award and Lecture", by Professor Emeritus Myron
Pollycove, MD, U. Cal. San Francisco (Nuclear Medicine), and NRC Medical Fellow, honored
as the ANS "Wilhelm Roentgen Radiology Centennial Orator."
An Embedded Topical Meeting on Low Level Radiation Health Effects, with 6
sessions, was held in conjunction with the November 1996 ANS Winter Meeting.
One technical session, plus the President's Special Session, was held at the
Annual Meeting in Orlando Florida in June 1997.
Two sessions were held at the ANS Winter Meeting in Albuquerque, NM in November
1997.
Four sessions were held at the ANS Annual Meeting in Boston MA in June 1999.
In addition, a report is provided on a "President's Special Session"
organized by the radiation protection "establishment" to ignore the scientific
data, and commit to the costly (profitable) extreme radiation protection standards. |
A report on the June 1999 "President's
Special Session" of radiation protection "establishment leaders" committed
to ignore and suppress the science to maintain extreme radiation protection policies, at
massive cost, for personal benefit, for no public health benefit. |
